Why Can't I find my wireless card?

Hi,
I appear to have a problem. I have a toshiba satellite 1800-100 running ubuntu (hoary hedgehog). I have just bought a wireless card (D-Link DWL-G650+) and I don't know some very basic things on how to get it going. Any help (in a very simplistic format as am still very new to linux) would be greatly appreciated. Please note - the laptop has no internet connection at the moment:

1) I have put the card in. How do I find out whether ubuntu has found it or not?

2) Some people seem to have found that they do not need to install anything else - what would I have to do to get it working if this is the case?

3)if I have to use ndiswrapper can I burn it onto a cd and then put it into my packages neatly?

4) If I use ndiswrapper how do I know which windows driver to use?

Sorry if these seem stupid but I have been trying to find answers for days now and really need to get this working.
Am grateful for any help!
Mog

cant help much

I don't run hedgehog but here is an address for ndiswrapper that may help you.
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m....php/Main_Page
I have Mandriva on a compaq laptop with a motorola wireles card and i have to run ndiswrapper with it.
as for burning to disc i have no idea. But any way the page i listed should give you all the anwser you need.
Even links to the windows driver's if you need ndiswrapper

P.S.
As SU have you tried running iwconfig?

THanks for your suggestions cyberdoc.

when I write sudo iwconfig I get:

lo no wireless extensions
sit0 no wireless extensions

but I don't know what this means.

I will definitly try ndiswrapper, do I do this first and then it should see my wireless card?
thanks, Mog

Also to any ubuntu users - where do I type in my WEP key? I can't seem to find anywhere that asks me for it . . .

Thanks.
