I read in another post that wpa_supplicant can store 'profiles' about my different networks. I might give that a try and see if I get anywhere with it. I'm going to look into writing some of my own scripts for connecting to my networks. I was hoping that there would be an end-all fix-all solution but probably not yet anyway.
Hi,

I've read this thread a few times! The answer is in the data that you posted. Your chasing your TAIL!

One, your route table indicates your wlan0 device gateway is 192.168.0.1. Your wlan0 IP assignment is;
Quote:
wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:02:6F:XX:XX:XX
inet addr:10.0.0.8 Bcast:10.0.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
I would setup static IP and your route before attempting any auto or GUI work. Get the network functioning first.

You could setup the devices with separate conf files then script between the files and then restart the network.

Thanks for the help, but I think you might have (maybe?) confused my info with mitchcat's info. I haven't posted anything with a 192.168.0.1 gateway. I have since (sorta) solved a problem of mine which wouldn't let me *see* any networks. For some reason when I would plug in my card, not only would my orinoco modules load but so would eth1394 even when I rmmod eth1394 and then unplug my card and plug it back in eth1394 would reload and bind to the card. Weird problem. when I look at the hardware config gui it would show wlan0 as IEEE1394 and not my wireless card. So I just ifdown eth1 (my firewire) and rmmod eth1394 and then I can get a lease and connect to my networks (although dns lookup is terrriblly slow) i don't know if it's the driver or my settings...

Hi,

My apologies! I reread the thread again. I would see if hotplug is your problem on boot for the ieee device. You could sleep the eth device detection and let the eth device pickup after the wlan0 device. This should help!

As for the dns being slow, what is the /etc/resolv.conf setup as?

my /etc/resolv.conf changes appropriately for whatever network I connect to. Actually, I seem to only be having problems with a single public wifi network. When I use my prism2 card with the orinoco_cs driver I am able to connect using the above steps but dns at this place is slooww. So, to see if it were the gateway or me I tried using my other card (linksys wpc54g with ndiswrapper) and am having no such problems with slow lookup. I can't tell if it's the driver or my settings. I can't find any noticeable difference in my settings between this network and the other pub wifi networks which I am not having trouble. One thing I have noticed is that when I am in range of this particular network (even if not associated) when i do iwlist scan it is the only network that appears, even though there are several which should be detected and are with my wpc54g card. This is the only place that this happens. I don't know how to go about figuring that out either.

Thanks!
