I hope this is in the right forum, and I did a search so I don't think it's a repeat. Anyways, I'm running Suse 10.0 on a laptop, and I finally got the internet working, I have a wireless signal and can get online. My question is, how would I setup encryption? I tried to do it by simply what little knowledge I had, I went into the router and set a key (Just pulled a random assortment of numbers out of the air, and used the same number on the router as the network card), I made sure it was the same format, and that both network mediums were set to encryption, but I just can't get online. Also, somehow something get's messed up when I try it, and the kinternet symbol in the taskbar disappears. I don't even know how to put the symbol back, since it's not in the applet or anything.
Also, while the kinternet symbol is in the taskbar now (I did a new install) it doesn't really have any options. When I right click it, everything is blanked out, and I can't access any information about the wireless network. Any and all help and replies are appreciated.
Alright, so I've made no progress with the encryption problem. However, I'm having problems just keeping the internet working. It was working, but now eth0 (Which was my internet interface) seems to be broken. It's like it's not associated with the network card anymore. Anyone know how to configure eth0 or eth1?
I really need help and would greatly appreciate anything you can throw at me.
Anyways, here's the update. I've gotten it to the point where it actually works sometimes. Sometimes when I boot, the machine recognizes the eth1 or eth0 (I think it may be switching on me) interface and device, and activates it, and the internet works great. But, then something will happen, I'll try and connect to another network or something, and the machine will freeze (But it's linux?!). When I reboot, the machine can't find the wireless interface. I have no idea how to tell it to activate the interface. Is ifup the standard way? Because when I tell it #ifup eth1 it just says, "No configuration found for eth1". I've checked and double checked the configuration files and I can't find anything unusual (Though I am new to linux and could easlily be missing something). When I enter ifconfig eth1 it gives me information about the card, but it doesn't have a inet6 address or anything like that. I'm getting very frustrated with this, sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. And when it doesn't, I have no idea how to activate the interface.
