Problems with Linksys WUSB11 and Mandrake 10

I've just installed Mandrake 10, my first Linux Distribution. I was aware that there was problems with wireless USB network adaptors and Linux but after searching I found a few threads which had people in identical positions, so I followed the advice to look for the Atmel driver with RFMP in the name. When I selected this it asked if I wanted to autoprobe or supply it with the correct parameters. When I chose to Autoprobe it flashed a few messages up too quickly to read then went back to a screen asking if I wanted to manually choose a device or use a network card already in my machine. Nomatter which of the four Atmel drivers, I always find myself at a similar result.

So can anyone help?

This depends on which version of the WUSB11 you have. Turn it over, and in small print in a gray box, it'll have a model number. For example, mine says "WUSB11 ver. 3.0".

If you have the 3.0, it doesn't work. Period. End of story.

If you have the 2.5, it uses the Prism2 drivers, not Amtel.

If you have 2.6, then I'm not sure what's wrong with yours.

Unhappy

WMD, or anyone else,

Is the Linksys WUSB11 v3.0 incompatible with MandrakeLinux 10.0, or all distros?

I'm a newbie, and I do want to learn, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with what I've been reading. The source files are not in the usr/src/ directory. I have been searching on the net under win2k to find solutions, since obviously I can't get online in linux.

I have gnome running right now, but I can run KDE or a few others as well if that makes it easier.

This would be rather disappointing. I want to learn Linux, and am willing to spend some time and effort on it, but not if I can't get networked. Switching to Win2k and printing out how-tos is not my idea of a good time.

EDIT #1:

When I ran "lsusb" from terminal, it listed my Lexmark USB printer which works just fine, and then presumably the WUSB11:

ID 1915:2236

Does that mean anything to anyone?
