Make wireless more portale, RT61 Chipset

I have a laptop, with Ubuntu currently installed. I also have a Belkin F5D7010 wireless card, with an RT61 chipset. To get this card to work, I had to install the drivers and edit the rt61sta.dat file to connect to my network. This works fine when I'm at home, but when I take my other laptops it takes forever to set everything up to a new network, sometimes I can't get it to work at all. I have to mess with the rt61sta.dat file, and /etc/network/interfaces etc. How can I make it so I can instantly connect to other networks? I have wifi-radar installed, but it dosn't seem to work with the rt61sta.dat file. Any help would be appreciated.

well as far as I know the rt61.ko driver is going to look at the rt61sta.dat file first.. and since you've hard-coded in there that you have to connect to your ssid/channel etc he's going to try that. What you could do is leave the rt61sta.dat file empty and do the configuration with iwconfig. maybe create different scripts for different location and run them accordingly? (just thinking outloud)

I have no idea how to script, how would I make a script that would replace the values of SSID and Key? Also, what effect does the /etc/network/interfaces file have?
