Wireless chipset identification

Is there a command that can be issued to verify the chipset that is being used for a wireless NIC?

I tried using the command lspci but the information appears to be very limited.

Thanks for any help.

Brian

Edit: The distros I'm using are Debian and Slackware.

Well, did you read /usr/(local/)share/pci.ids and download the latest version? Then you can search the web - knowing the chipset name from pci.ids.
