hey whats up yall, ive searched, scoward, and ripped the internet to shreads to find out my problem but im still left baffled. 1st off, yes im a linux noob so please bear with me. I have a Toshiba a75 with an Atheros AR5004G wifi card and im having some trouble getting my wifi config'ed and running. Im currently using Mandrake 10.1 and have everything running tip top but i've ran into a snag with my wifi. I extracted and "make/make install" both ndiswrapper, and madwifi. i ran through the installation process and tried to configure them but just cant get anything going. they are installed and i went into my control center....then hardware....then (ethernet/wifi) and found that madwifi is set as the module. when i went to configure the module i get a message basiclly stating that their are no parameters to be configured....what should i do? any help will be greatly appreciated.
Morning Jim - I'd try Ubuntu, I have an Atheros wireless card, it's detected right off the bat (I just have to put my WPA key in). Easiest distro out there!
You don't need or want both madwifi and ndiswrapper trying to control the same wireless interface. If madwifi driver will work with your card, you should use that and forget about ndiswrapper.
Go back and re-configure the madwifi drivers - see madwifi website for directions. Then run iwconfig as root from a command line and see what it reports back.
