Need help with Madwifi/Atheros on Slack10.1

I've tried to following the instructions on madwifi but to no avail. I keep finding posts via google about how easy it is, but I don't ever seem to find this easy method, heh.

I am very close, but something is just not right.

My wifi card is a NetGear WG511T with Atheros as seen below.

lspci -v
01:06.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
        Subsystem: Unknown device 161f:202d
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 5
        I/O ports at d800 [size=256]
        Memory at e00ffc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
        Subsystem: Netgear: Unknown device 5b00
        Flags: medium devsel
        Memory at 2e800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
dmesg | grep ath0 gives me nothing unfortunately.

Not sure what else you need to help me with this.

If someone has some method which they have gotten this to work, I would love it. I just want to get this wifi working.

You built a madwifi package, and modprobed your modules,
by the look of your post. Now, here's the problem. Slackware's
network configuration does not allow for interfaces other than
eth0, eth1, etc...

I'm running Slackware -current, and have an Atheros 5212 mini
PCI in one lappy. There are two things I can offer.

First, if you want to get the scripts to work, I'll give you a link
to a guy who has this stuff worked out. No need in me repeating
it when you can get the stuff from him.

Second, if you don't want to deal with the scripts now, even
though that's the proper way, you can put this in rc.local
ifconfig eth0 down
iwconfig ath0 essid philemon channel 6
ifconfig ath0 netmask
route add default gw dev ath0
You should of course change the name of your essid, channel, and
also the IP, netmask, and gateway for your box.

Either way, try it and post back if you need more help.
