Linux (Fedora) wireless working but now XP can't connect - DHCP problem?
I have a Dell 700m laptop with dual boot XP and Fedora 4. I spent some time last night getting the wireless working in Fedora and after a few driver problems, got it working. When I got up this morning however, I booted into XP and I was connecting to the wireless access point, but I was not getting an IP or anything. I'm thinking this may be a router problem, but not for sure. I am currently connecting through a wireless router which goes through a SBC DSL modem to the internet. I changed my DHCP lease time to expire after 1 hour (which cleared my lease table) but was still unable to connect.
Any ideas on why I can get DHCP in Fedora without any probs and can't in XP? (It was working fine in XP before getting the wireless working in Fedora last night)
Well, I'm not sure this is an XP problem, but more of my router's DHCP config.
I've done all the usual windows things. ipconfig -renew, actually configuring a static IP address and gateway (did the necessary settings in the router for this to work also) but nothing. When I do ipconfig alone I get 0.0.0.0, so I know it is not getting any info from the router...windows is just saying it is connected, just not totally.
My guess is that this has something to do with the MAC Address of the machine and the router. It is kind of like when you dual boot 2 XP OS, the pid of windows doesn't like it very much and the DHCP table needs to be reset to get it working.
Anyway, do I need to mask my MAC Address in Linux, or why won't the router let me connect?
I'm not sure what the solution was, but when I checked it at lunch, it was working just fine. We'll see if this strange occurance comes back or not, but my guess is it had something to do with the DHCP leases.
