Sorry dude, bad news, you don't have a prism2 based card, you have the brand spanking new broadcom card, here's some jibe on it from the linux-wlan mailing list:
Jean's page doesn't even have an entry for them so I doubt a driver in any instance exists.
If you can return the kid, you can pick up the version of the card without v.2.7 printed on the box and be alright. Also, the DWL-520 (not the 520+ or 520A or 520H) is just another prism2 pci card.
Does it say version 2.7 somewhere on the box? I can't seem to find that...just want to know where to look so I don't make the same mistake twice...
Thanks for the help so far...I'll get the other version...or, can I do this with a different card? I just need to patch into my Linksys router running @Home with 2 Windows machines...don't really care what card gets the job done in Linux...
any thoughts to a "plug and play" alternative that'll pickup the rest of my network?
Any of the other PCI 802.11b cards that are linux supported will talk to the wireless router, manufacturer doesn't matter. That's why the Dlink card may make for a good alternative. None of them that have tried to involve "proprietary crap" have survived this long.
could you perhaps recommend some manufacturers/model numbers so I can return this one with a pretty good idea of what I should get instead? Not sure what you mean by "other PCI 802.11b cards that are linux supported..."
The Dlink DWL-520 (no A, + or H after the 520, just a 520).
The Linksys WMP11 is a good card if you don't get the bloody broadcom one.
Those are the only two I'm dead sure about as everyone seems to be playing silly buggers with chipsets this month... and its not like they're going from 802.11b to something better, they're just changing chipsets to be twerps!
If you post one that looks good I'll track down the info on it, or you can hit the www.linux-wlan.net mailing list archives and see whether they got it to work...
How would I get the Linksys card and make sure it isn't a broadcom chipset? I was guessing that all the new, store-bought version are v. 2.7 Broadcom. I'm looking on ebay and would love to get the right linksys card. Anyone out there know where to look on the actual card to verify that it ISN'T a Broadcom card? I'd like to tell the person selling it to check and I'm not sure where to tell them to look...I'm also planning on calling Linksys today and see what they have laying around...
Im sorry, I can already predict that my question will cause chaos as I am a complete RH noob. I am a windows junkie who is tired of all the bullshit, so i downloaded RH 8 and its working fine. The problem is that I have a WLAN and my WMP11 isnt being recognized at all by RH, actually I dont know if it is . someone please help, I have downloaded both the tars and RPM's, I dont know how to 'activate' the tars after I uncompress them, and the RPM's install but nothing happens. Please help me!

First off, be careful of the language, no biggie, we're not vocab nazis here, this place is just kinda PG-13 in its outlook... its part of the rules on the signup page that I didn't read at first either.
Second, lets make certain you don't have the Broadcom version of the WMP11 that Linksys has been marketing recently, it has nothing to do with the harris/prism2 chipsets shipped before and their are no linux drivers for it because broadcom is being a bunch of weenies.
/sbin/lspci
And if the "ethernet controller" listed mentions broadcom, then there's nothin to do but get a new one, take it back, or short it out and then take it back.
If it isn't a broadcom chip, as root, from any terminal:
modprobe orinoco_cs
ifconfig eth0 up
dhclient eth0
Probably, if there's a wired ethernet card in the box, then the wireless one got eth1, if your AP is running encryption, add:
Right after the ifconfig eth0 up. Actually, RH 7.3 or 8.0 have a crappy version of the orinoco driver for prism2 based cards that need to run encryption, but that's a lot of ducks to have in a row and lets not sweat it until we're sure.
Im sorry about the language, i recently have had many many problems with windows and I have lost years of work.
In linux under controllers I see a 3com one and a Realtek one, I think the Realtek is the ethernet... Is that bad?
3com = Broadcom???
I hope not...
How would I short it hehehe i have lost the reciepts and all...
SHEESH
never mind the 3com is a second ethernet adapter, I found a Broadcom, dirty linksys. And now I cant return it....
oh well...
thanks anyway everyone

I have the same card. I am running RedHat 9. I see you guys talking about the rpms.. where did you guys get them? is there hope for me? Can i use my linksys wmp11 wireless card and RH? I sure hope so... I contacted Linksys and they said: "Unfortunately that card will not work under your OS" :-(
there has to be some type of third-party stuff out there. All I want is for it to run. it doesn't have to be all that reliable. just enough to check mail and what not....
the latest linksys wireless cards (WMP11) are broadcom chipsets, not prism, and at the last look a couple of months ago, (when i discovered the one i'd bought was a broadcom chipset one) there were no drivers available for the Broadcom type. I sent it back to the retailer and bought a netgear MA311, works fine.
