linksys wireless b router - remote access

i just installed this router and downloaded the latest firmware.

my problem is ssh'ing to my desktop at home while i am at work.

my desktop is hard-wired to the router via a cat-5 cable and i am able to use ssh wirelessly to it with my laptop at home using the default internal ip (ssh 192.168.1.100).

i think i have to put the desktop in the dmz. can someone please explain how to in the router's configuration webpage (http://192.168.1.1).

thanks,
Code:
Firmware Version: 1.52.02
Setup

Wireless-B Broadband Router BEFW11S4

i figured it out; it's in the router's 'applications and gaming' tab.

can someone tell me how to make sure the desktop server always statically selects the ip '192.168.1.100'
?

thanks,

Most of the home routers have the option to assign static IPs - just pick one outside of the DHCP range.

It might not be such a good idea to DMZ the machine, if you have a linksys router which I believe you do port forwarding port 22 on your WAN IP to the internal port 22 on the machine internal IP would be a better idea. Also as far as the static IP you could choose one outside the DHCP assigned addresses, or I believe though not sure but I think the router has static DHCP too, which means that you can set the router to assign the same IP to that machine everytime based on the MAC address of the machine.

Regarding forwarding port 22 traffic, I did the same thing initially on my router (same Linksys as is being discussed here) and I soon noticed HUNDREDS of "unfriendly" SSH login attempts. I finally disabled port 22 on the router and set it to a different port number, and forwarded that port to my SSH box instead. Just a thought you might want to consider.

thanks but does anyone know which tab to select these options?

my machine seems that it cant go a day without getting a new ip eventhough i dont shut off the power to either the pc or the router.

i would be content if there was a way to keep the same internal ip for at least a week (between reboots).

(why is it changing ip's if the pc isnt being restarted?)

this router is pissing me off.

every 2 days the wireless and/ or wired connections go down and i have to unplug wait 10 seconds then plug it back in.

anybody else have this problem or have a remedy.

edit: it comes up as an available wireless access point. but when i click on it, it doesn't give an ip address.

Wow sounds like a lemon lol. Seriously, I have only seen similar activity with one linksys router that I access at work sometimes, occasionally it won't dish out an IP over the Wireless. I wish I could explain why, byt I don't know whay it does it. Have you updated to the latest firmare for the router that may help if you have not

done so all ready. I'm sorry son is grabbing at keyboard and typed enter by accident so this is a two part post lol. Anyway Something does not seem right. on the PC you want to have on the wireless and have ssh to, try disabling the DHCP and setting a static IP on the PC itself, that might work, it did on the rotuer I access at work sometimes. Well as it were I have to go for now hope some or any of this helps.

next time it occurs i'll have to pay attention. i did upgrade the latest firmware. i think there is a setting to request new ip's after a minimum of 2 days but i toggled it off.

it seems to refuse to move packets after 48 hours.

i'll update later.

Is it running out of ip adresses in its scope? I doubt it, but.... Have you contacted linksys about the problems? You could try running dhcp server on a computer and disabling it on the router?
