iwconfig wlan0
i am somewhat familiar with setting up wireless network cards...i am trying to put a wireless usb adapter in a desktop computer....when i do iwconfig it says eth0 no wireless interface and lo no wireless interface, but wlan0 isn't even showing up.....how can i get the computer to recognize my device? i have used ndiswrapper to install the driver, and it installed successfully
I would say that if wlan0 is not showing up then the driver did not install successfully!
Double check that wlan0 does not show up in ifconfig -a, and also are there any hints in the output of 'dmesg'? I'm not specifically familiar with ndiswrapper but it would help to know what procedure you followed to install the device, what commands you typed, and what type of wireless card you are setting up.
Sorry, if it's a ndiswrapper problem I can't help, but unless you supply some more details of your setup and what procedure you are following then neither will anyone else!
exactly, then it will become available. ifconfig wlan0 up will then bring up the interface followed by dhclient wlan0 to grab an IP. Then you'll be set......ideally.
Originally posted by fatrandy13 yeah your right, the driver didnt install corectly, any help with that?
in dmesg i see that my wireless adapter says no driver associated
I missed that post. Usually just running "modprobe ndiswrapper" will help. But you can also run "ndiswrapper -m" which will add the proper alias to modules.conf. That should clear up the dmesg errors.
