It used to work, now it doesn't! SuSE 9/Siemens SpeedStream 1024
I never could get the blinking thing to work under SuSE 8.2, but when I loaded up SuSE 9, all I had to do was load the PCMCIA package (even though it isn't a PCIMCIA card), configure the card which was recognized as a Prism 2.5 type, and update group permissions. Viola, I was on-line! That worked just fine for a week until I shutdown the system. When I rebooted I started to get the same messages that I got under 8.2. I have fiddled and futzed and even reloaded the operating system. No go.
The messages that I get are:
ERROR : command 'iwconfig wlan0 channel 6' returned
Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04):
SET failed on device wlan0 ; invalid argument
I get an error with a different error code for each of the "Set" commands that I need to specify for ESSID, channel, and nickname. I think that all I really need to set is the channel and "nickname" is being set by YaST.
I also bought one of those cheapo books with a RedHat distro, but it doesn't even find the card. I did see the post that suggests using orinoco_pci, but that driver isn't in my RH distro, however I'm going to go have another look at it to make sure. I haven't found the drivers in SuSE, but obviously, they're there. Getting it to work for a week just heightens my frustration.
