IPW2200BG on Fedora 4 help

Ok so I used the drivers that came with the kernel and installed the firmware that goes with them(version 2.2) and the ieee, after everything is installed everything seems to be ok

[root@ilhuicamina ilhuicamina]# /sbin/lsmod |grep ipw
ipw2200 72073 0
ieee80211 22793 1 ipw2200

[root@ilhuicamina ilhuicamina]# dmesg | grep ipw
ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.0.0
ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel Corporation
ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection

I set it up in the network connections fine.

The problem comes when activating the card the next error pops out

Error for wireless request "Set Bit Rate" (8B20) :
SET failed on device eth1 ; Operation not supported.

Then it goes ahead and grabs an ip from the network but still wont let me do anything. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi I was also reading around the /var/log/messages and in it I found the following

Error loading Firmware... restarting

and thats it. I then suppose it has to do with the firmware BUT before you ask yes the firmware is the one that goes with the driver and yes the firmware is installed in the appropriate directory.

So then what is it? Ive been googling around and searching the forums and turns out Im not the only one with this problem, except nobody has given a solution to it. Any help would be grateful.

If you look at this:
http://bughost.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=592
It seems like the version 1.0.0 has this problem.

I'm a bit surprised then that it was integrated in the kernel then...

So maybe you need a newer driver...

Ok so I was about to install the new drivers following the how to on this webpage

http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/fc2-ipw2200.shtml

I removed all the old drivers but then turns out the howto is referring to the following file

/lib/modules/2.6.14-1.1656_FC4/build/.config
to edit it for the monitoring mode and the path in my computer does not exist. Turns out I have a link called build there but its a broken link, its supposed to link to
usr/scr/kernels/2.6.14-1.1656_FC4-i686

I ignored this and then just decided to download the files and install them but then when trying to do the make with the ieee file i had the same problem, its looking to do stuff in the same folder
/lib/modules/2.6.14-1.1656_FC4/build/
looking for files like config and autoconfig

so then I decided to go to usr/scr/kernels and found out there is nothing in /usc/scr the folder is empty. So then I was not able to install anything, I have no idea of where to install it to or where the hell the config files that Im looking for are.

Any suggestions?

Please note that although(from what Ive had read elsewhere) this doesnt seem like a normal instalation, it is. I have not compiled my own kernel nor the such(Im still a newbie here) and therefore have no idea of what happened here that is so different from whats to be expected in the filesystem. I installed FC4 some weeks ago and have then been trying to install stuff to it and all in all make everything work but still have not meddled with the kernel at all.
