You're asking two different things.

To configure the wireless card to use the correct SSID, mode, encryption, etc., edit /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts with your parameters if using a PCMCIA card or /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless.conf for PCI, USB, and 32-bit Cardbus wireless devices.

To enter these settings manually for testing, use iwconfig

To pull an IP address from a DHCP server, edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf

To do this manually, dhcpcd eth0 (or your interface - wlan0, ath0, etc.)

When i set up my wireless card it was automatically picked up so if yours is like mine just type

iwconfig

Then using the interface that your wireless card is on type

netconfig ethX (replace X with your interface number)

go through the steps and it will give you the option to let it use dhcp.
after that your wireless card will work unless you have encryption on your router. To configure that edit /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless.conf and edit the line essid and put your routers essid. Than after that add a line under it containing
KEY="xxxx..." (put in your key obviously)

after that run

/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 stop
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 start

hopefully everything should work

my bad 2gnu didn't see your post
