Broadcom wireless internal on mandrake 10.0

My laptop has an internal wireless card and harddrake cant fine the module for it... harddrake says it is a BCM94306 802.11g NIC ... when i press the run config tool button and then wireless connection, it doesnt show the card as a choice and only says Manual choice. I tried all 3 of the bcm modules and none of them seemed to work. I also tried to install the driver from the website broadcom.com/drivers/downloaddrivers.php (i was installing the i386 driver) but i always get an error when i do insmod

[root@localhost RPM]# insmod basp
insmod: can't read 'basp': No such file or directory

do any of you have a suggestion as to how to get the card configured?!... or any usb wireless nics that play nicely with mandrake? Or any of distros that play nicelier with the card?

please help!

I had burnt the iso's for fc3 rc1 , but since are having the same problem... ill wait till someone can point me to one that works. I had tried to use both the .tgz and the .rpm and get the same insmod error on both

I did a whereis and found out that i have the basp.ko in /etc/basp
Where should the kernel module be so insmod can find it? Maybe copying it there will fix the problem?

TruthSifter,
Did you get it going?
Try loading the module from where it is:
cd to the etc/basp directory and run insmod basp.ko
It may work like that, just as a quick test.

I am attempting to get the broadcom 94306 running under gentoo 64bit on my HP zv5225us laptop. I believe the basp module is only for the broadcom ethernet adapter, and not their WLAN adapter, so this wouldn't work for you.
I have received the following URL from HP Tech support (surprisingly) that has instructions for Debian Sid and references the files we need.

http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/e/sedlabs1/hpze5620.html

Aside - I would prefer to run Debian Pure64, but wrestled with it too long, so use gentoo 64 now and have been basically pleased with it.

I am working on this driver installation now and will let you know if i am successful with my chipset and distro. Check it out.

The driver for the card is 32 bit and will not under any circumstances work in a 64 bit environment. Check win xp 64 bit to see if there are drivers.
