Here's what I tried:

(see other stuff on freeantennas.com and elsewhere)
The two antennae on my Linksys WRT-54GL are 6 inches apart. I cut two pieces of sheet metal 5.5 inches square. I wrapped 10-inch wire ties around the two metal squares so they'd stay curved VERY close to the exact curve in the template (you can glue aluminum foil on bent cardboard instead of using sheet metal). Position your parabola (or both of them) as precisely as you can over your router's "rubber ducky" (or "duckies") and see what happens.
There is some improvement in the direction the parabolas face, but the signal is not "used up". It still puts out a good omnidirectional signal. So you can probably use the Net at the same time as your neighbor.
I was surprised at how easy this was. Combine this simple antenna with re-orienting the equipment at both ends.
You may find some detachable 5-inch omni antennas out there, with a couple of feet of wire and a 1 inch base. Give one to your neighbor and tell him to put it on his window-sill. Then he doesn't have to move his tower PC into an odd/difficult position in his front room. For $7 or so it's worth buying one to experiment (disregard this if he has a laptop).
Let us know how it works out!
