Best Wireless Card - Red Hat 9.0

I have ben trying to get my SMC2632W wireless card working for the past 3 days on Red Hat 9.0 without succcess.

So finally decided to buy a new card which will work straight out of the box. Could anyone suggest a few which work straight with Red Hat 9.0 without major configuration.

Thanks.

orinoco or prism are supposed to be the cards that work best with any linux os

u can always try the command iwconfig wlan0 essid "Wireless" in place of wireless try putting `any` or substitute wotever access point.

Or u can find the cards chipset , get the necessary drivers and `modprobe`

this is also a very good link re wireless cards

not the smc2532w-b. someone here told me that it would be good since it is a prism based card. still battling configuration. don't think any wireless card is easy to get up on linux. the next card i would buy would be an orinoco gold

I have the exact same wireless laptop card. I got it to work using the ADM8211 drivers, all I had to do was install the kernel sources, make a symlink to the kernel source, and compile the driver. THen I just insmodded the 80211.o module and it worked fine. I did this on Mandrake 9.2 but that's almost identical to Red Hat anyway. If you still have that card and you havent figured something out, email me at jloden@toughguy.net and I'll give you detailed instructions and I can even send you the drivers, I've got them on my server someplace. Alternatively, you can get a hold of me on AIM almost any time as HolisticDriving. I'm glad to help if I can, I'm going through the same thing right now trying to get wireless to work on my desktop and it's giving me migraines.
