I've got wireless tools, atmel driver, etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseum (incl. ndiswrapper).

I believe I have version 1 of the card. Here is cardctl ident:

Belkin, Wireless Notebook etc., Version 01.02
0x0156, 0x0002

Assume this means version 1. Here is the deal. I know the ESSID for the network, and I know the AP MAC address. My wireless card can DETECT the AP, with correct MAC address and all. The little yellow light is on on the card, not blinking. However, when I try to ping any computer on the network, or the AP itself, I get:

connect: network unreachable

I cannot get dhcpcd to assign an IP, but I can statically assign with ifconfig. Then, when I ping I get a host unreachable.

I KNOW that many many questions have been asked regarding this card. I have googled to no end about it. It seems that the Version 2 drivers/instructions do not work for me. Any ideas?

Sounds like MAC layer is up (usually the hard part with wireless), but IP layer isn't.

What do
ifconfig wlan0
and
netstat -rn
print?

In particular is IP you assigned in the same "network" (as defined by netmask)
as IPs you are ping-ing?
Does netstat show the network you are pinging as going via wireless device?
Have you "borrowed" an IP address which was already in use on the network?
