Is there any kind soul out there who might send me bcmwl5.sys in a version < 4? I got version 4 from a friend, but bcm-fwcutter doesn't work with version 4, needs less than that. I want my wifi under Debian to work!
Don't have much luck downloading it from berlioz.de, seems it's not there!
Thank you, kind soul!
What if you used b43-fwcutter instead, would it work with the newer driver? Or do you have a reason to stick to the old driver (like that you did have bcm43xx module, but no b43) ?
Put that badly: the Debian kernel I am using has a module for wifi. But, it wants a version < 4 It can't handle the microcode from bcmwl5.sys version 4. Can't quite remember the hex number it requires, but soemthing like requires version < Ox128. God it's a fight to get wifi working!
What kernel? And have you tried ndiswrapper? I use ndiswrapper in Debian Lenny as well as OpenSuse 11.0. I've never bothered with fwcutter since it seemed as involved as ndiswrapper, and now I am used to it.
Kernel no sé, but its the latest stable from Debian!
Yeah tried ndiswrapper once with SUSE, and it worked. There was a great tutorial on this web site. But now they've put wifi modules in the Debian kernel, I suppose. They just want microcode version < 0x128. Here in the country everything is difficult. Be in Málaga on the weekend and have internet ADSL, I'll sort it then!
