My brother asked an interesting question. If the system has no remote login software, as in if he wanted to log into his system from some place else, etc., why does the o/s need a passwd at all?

I explained the root thing and sudo if you are a user and he explained to me that he learned not to do things that would make his windows crash.

One command I know is the worst linux or rather the ultimate dummy command and that's "rm". I explained what it does and he asked me why it doesn't both deny you from deleting / and warn you that you are deleting something important. And then we got into a permission talk that I ended after explaining the very, very basics.

So the question still stands. How can I get rid of all passwd's and the use thereof in Linux so the o/s ends up being just like the "point-and-click-no-login-click-ok-or-cancel-to-login-o/s"?

But if only dialup networking exists, what will they hack into? Or, if you do have a root passwd set and they hack in, what good are the su and user passwd's now?


Scenario: The Linux no passwd O/S Car.... there's no server engine, so there's nothing to drive the car away with even if you get in and the keys are in it.

If you want no passwords, and the whole security fubar that it will create, use windows.

Theres enough noobs as it goes doing stupid stuff like that in *nix.

In short, its a question that can be answered by common sense. Neither is secure so neither is the best.
