(vpn router - file server - other) inside ESXi

ok this is kind of complicated.... and im still trying to get it right in my head...

i have at my house a nice little network with a VPN server, file server, VoIP server + others... at my girlfriends house i have a small ESXi server with a a few servers on it, i was only aloud to put one small box in her room ...

what i want to do is add her to my VPN so that she can access my file server and i can connect her to my VoIP server..

my plan so far is:

plug her home router into one of the ethernet ports on the ESXi server and then a second wireless router into the other port...

on the ESXi server i will have a virtual smooth-wall (if it can handle this) which will rout the traffic to the VPN if its traffic bound to my network or strait threw her internet if its just normal traffic..

i don't know if this made any sense at all... so iv included a diagram and examples to help.... i hope......

example 1:
GF types www.google.com > DNS request goes to smooth-wall via R1 > smooth-wall sees its normal internet traffic and throws it on 192.168.0.0 network > R2 dose normal stuff

example 2:
GF makes phone call on IP phone > traffic gose to smooth-wall via R1 > smooth-wall sees its on 10.0.40.0 and passes it threw the VPN

1) is this even possible??
2) will i be able to remotely manage the ESXi server from my house??

please tell me if this makes no sense at all and i will try explaining it again....

I use Smoothwall all the time as a VM and it works very well.

The easiest way to do this is to think of the Smoothwall VM as a physical server, and to consider the vSwitch on the ESXi as a physical switch. If you can set it up on physical hardware, you can do just the same with VMs on ESXi.

Instead of connecting the Smoothwall VM to eth0 or eth1, you will be connecting it to different vSwitches, these will each have an uplink to somewehere different.

Check out this very useful document:

Hope this helps.
