VMware bug renders Microsoft wired keyboard unresponsive

Hi all,

I'm very new to all this so please bear with me. After installing VMware player, VMware tools and then loading Mint, I note the Microsoft wired keyboard is not recognized during POST on my Win7 host machine. Attempts to edit the registry have not worked. I've since removed VMware and the Mint installation. I would like to continue evaluating Mint within a virtual machine (maybe VirtualBox?) so long as I can resolve this issue. I've searched high and low for a solution to this problem but have yet to succeed with any suggestions found.
