Slow linux virtualisation

Using Fedora Core 17 on a HP Pav G6 (A6 Quad Core 1.5Ghz, 4GB memory) running VMWare Workstation 8.0.3. I know VMWare workstation 8.0.3 doesn't work with AMD Virtualisation tech and Fedora Core 17.

Wondering whether it would be better to swap to VirtualBox? Will VirtualBox work faster with AMD VT?

AMD is maybe the most supported VM cpu lines produced for consumer products. The cpu has nothing to do with this issue.

VMware products have the same core so it won't help to change. I doubt Virtualbox would be faster.

Is there a chance that VM support has been disabled in bios? It may have an odd name.

What is the host OS by the way?

I'd be worried that the hard drive is the slow part.
