Question "lxc list" vs "lxc-ls"

I'm quite new to LXC so please forgive me if this is something I should already be aware of, I've searched this forum back to 2010 and can't find anything related.

If I create a container using
Code:
lxc-create -t download -n LXC01
then it shows up only if I run
Code:
lxc-ls
and if I create a container using
Code:
lxc launch images:debian/jessie/amd64 LXC02
then it shows up only if I run
Code:
lxc list
. Neither container shows in the other listing.

I'm using Linux Mint 18.1 and the following version of LXD/LXC
Code:
mintos ~ # lxd --version
2.8
mintos ~ # lxc --version
2.8
mintos ~ #
Is the difference in the list commands because I also have "libvirt" installed (I'm using QEMU/KVM with Virtual Machine Manager also for fuller virtualisation). Am I effectively running two different instances/versions of LXC?

Doing a little digging in apt showed that I still had the package "lxc1" installed from previous experiments some time ago and so I had both lxc 1 and lxc 2 installed in parallel. Nice that you can do that but somewhat confusing that they don't list each other's containers.

Now to get macvlan working and I'll be sorted.
