Best emulation software for running drivepool
I want to move my home server from windows to Linux. The one thing holding me back is I currently use StableBit Drivepool to pool all my disks into one large pool of drives. I have looked at greyhole as a Linux alternative, but it doesn't have the same level of performance/features that I get with Drivepool. The solution to this problem that I have come up with is to run windows in a VM and give the VM direct access to all the drives. I hope this will work without much of a performance hit. Right now I am looking into using Linux Mint on the home server (although I am open to suggestions, I just am most familiar with Debian/Ubuntu style distributions).
Can anyone give me advice on which virtualization software I should use for this purpose? I have Googled around and the likely suspects seem to be:
1) VMware player;
2) VirtualBox;
3) Qemu; and
4) ESXi (I am confused about whether this one is free or not).
I plan on using either windows 7 or 8.1 as the guest os. My highest priority is finding a emulation software that can access my real disks with the best performance.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
