Hmmm, it may be possible that neither one of you has made a predefined number of posts. If so, this will need to be accomplished before that feature is unlocked. Can anyone else confirm this?

In the meantime, if you don't mind Zyufin knowing your email address (or vice versa,) if you left click on Zyufin's username on one of his/her posts, a menu will drop down. Click "Send email to Zyufin." Another page should come up allowing you to compose a message that, I'm guessing, will be sent to the email address Zyufin provided LQ when he/she registered.

Regards...

Emailing is not among the options when clicking on Zyufin's name. The only thing that looks hopeful is "View public profile," but that doesn't yeild an email address, either. These are among the things I'd tried before finally requesting help on emailing him/her. Still stymied. Any other idea(s)?

Hi...

I'm not understanding why, unless it's the same issue I mentioned before.

Could you tell me the entries that are listed?

The only other thing that I can think of that might work is I can e-mail both of you and can act as a go between if both of you are willing. I would email Zyufin, then he/she would email me back with the information needed and then I would email you.

Regards...

Ok, I will first wait a day ot two for Zyufin to respond here.

Thanks for posting the information I requested. The option to send email would have been right below "View HCL Entries."

Regards...

Getting back to the subject, take a look at the Linux Lugcast. It is an online LUG, created especially for those who cannot find an LUG in their area as their target audience.

I listen to the podcasts, but I don't participate in the live online sessions because Friday night is not a good night for me to do so and I do have a local LUG. I have corresponded with them and know they would welcome anyone who wishes to participate.

Thanks to both of you. I'll sit tight and await further word from ardvark71. And thanks for the Linux Lugcast reference; I didn't know it existed. I'll look into it.

Regards to both of you,
Ray

Well, not having heard from you, ardvark71, I guess you haven't heard from Zyufin, right? Strange, s/he was quite responsive and helpful 'till you offered to coordinate. Maybe s/he's having a vacation this 4-day work week.

Hi...

That's correct, I sent an email to Zyufin yesterday and I have not heard back yet. I'm not sure why, it could be any number of reasons. I'd give it a few more days before planning a different route.

Does your friend use Linux currently and if so, which distribution?

Regards...

Yes, maybe even 'till early next week,as s/he may be on vacation.
Heavens no. My friend, 73-74(?) years old, is very simple; she can do only basic stuff and never had heard of Linux. I think, though, that she has either Firefox or Chrome on her new Win8.1 (inheritance money), but I'm not sure; she might have said that she doesn't know any web browser but IE exists.

When I made my request, it was to at least put LibreOffice and Firefox on her Win8.1. Anything more than that would be appreciated, but at least that would allow her to make he business labels and related stuff. (She has only a meager SS stipend and tries to supplement that with real estate sales, for which she needs those labels/fliers and can't afford MicrosoftOffice.) More than that could include simplifying 8.1 so that it functions like 7 so she'd know how to navigate a bit better, and at most dual-booting it w/ Ubuntu and fully configuring it for her (set all relevant settings, add any desired program(s), remove anything she never will use, etc.). I know how much that is to ask, so I hope for that only if an extraordinarily humanitarian person, likely a retired one, would take the time for all that. I'm no techie, so all that would take me days to do (actually, I don't have 8.1 or even an installed 7, so I couldn't do that part, at least not quickly). Still, the minimum would get her functional w/ her most pressing need.

You're welcome. No, I'm actually around 2000 miles away in Oregon.
