That's extremely unfortunate. Are you running an X server of some description? You say Konsole which leads me to believe you are but it's always smart to check. X equals graphical user interface as opposed to a command line.

you said xmms is working fine for all users BUT root? thats fine then, no? why would you want to run xmms as root?
does running a different GUI program as root give you the same error?
All of my songs are on Windows ntfs drives and i can access them only as root.
I also cannot change their permissions.
Java programs having AWT compile but do not execute
did you mount the NTFS drive as read only? then you cant change the permissions. also, you should only mount NTFS drives as readonly as writing to NTFS partitions may ruin the partition.
try changing the entry for your NTFS partition in /etc/fstab so that other users not just root have access.
run the java program from a command line, whats the output? if you have the java virtual machine it should work on any operating system.. if of course the software was written properly.
Ok managed to mount the partition so that they can be accessed from anywhere.
However no X server application runs from Konsole as root, not even Konqueror !!
Yeah, there's no real reason to run stuff like XMMS as root. The only graphical program I run as root is Emacs, but that's only when I'm editing configuration files. Try running "xhost local:root" and see if that helps (and if it does, add that line to your .profile). But again, as nadroj implies, you really don't need to be running most things as root.
This problem occurs for me too , say if i login into xwindows as user X and start a console and su to user Y , user Y isnt able to run GUI programs it says
