Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by serve

Hi... I use the kde 3.3
When i try to launch an x application from the konsole i receive the following message

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

couldn't connect to display ":0" at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i586-linux-thread-multi/Tk/MainWindow.pmline 55.

What should i do?

Try to run the program as the user who started the xserver. (Who you're logged into it as)

Are you logging in as root? Which distro do you use?

If you are using SuSE, and you have su'd to root, you will not be able to start an x application. However, SuSE offers another command called "sux". Use sux instead of "su" and you will be able to start a program such as Kate or YaST from a konsole.

No. I dont log in as root.... I log in as the normal user but console dont let me launch an application. If i first launch xterm then i can succesfully launch any application i want. Some friends of mine in order to eliminate this problem use in konsole the xhost command and then everything goes fine... so i dont know what to do

Well you can do the xhost command too. If you search with your error and xhost you'll probably find it easily. On the other hand it was not recommended to me and now I've just setup sudo for the programs that really need root account so I can use it in my own user account.

If you su'ed to root, or a different user, and you use a distro such as SuSE, you will get the same error. You don't need to login as root for it to fail.

You might want to read info pam_xauth.
