xine player


i have just install mandrake 8.2 powerpack. i have xine player, i opened it , put in dvd, clicked on dvd, tryed to start the xine player, get a error message about some plugin needed. isn,t all the software needed to start watching my dvds or do i need to do something eles. thanks ronss

check if DECSS is installed
this will allow to play encryted dvds

or use mplayer, it's better ... you'd think i'd get tired of mentioning it wouldn't you...?

Xine doesn't ship with with DeCSS plugins (for legal reason). go to xine.sourceforge.net for more info.

thanks. i don,t get it, why xine is not a configured piece of software. intervideo also have win dvd, but will not offer it to the public, only oem manufaucturers . later ronss

because the law is VERY amibguous abuot dvd decryption, and as such unlicensed dvd software (i.e. all GPL software and more) will gnerally steer clear from *officially* associating itself will dvd decryption, but are ususally pretty happy using a third party plugin.
