xfree86 and imakefile: how do I edit it properly?

I'm reading a tutorial, and it's telling me this:

Quote:
Edit xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/input/Imakefile and add symbol9486 to the SUBDIRS and DRIVERS lines.
I'm looking at the Imakefile, and I see the following lines:

Quote:
SUBDIRS = XInputDrivers $(JOYSTICKDIR)
DRIVERS = XInputDrivers
How exactly do I edit this file?

I'm pretty sure if I put symbol9486 right after it, then I'd get a bad compile. Should I do $(symbol9486)?
What is the proper way to do this?
