Xfree86 acts as if installed but wont start on gentoo

I followed every step in the install guide and now I am trying to get free86 installed.
First problem is when I emerge xfree it acts as if there are no problems. But then when I type starrtx I get "command not found"
Now I take it I missed something and I would like someone to please point it out.

Second problem is when I boot it just stops when it gets to "mounting /proc"
Any ideas what could be wrong? I am compiling a new kernel in case something messed up the first time.
