XFree86 4.3.0

Hi all
I just installed the bunaries of XFree86 leatest version 4.3.0 on my Mandrake 9 desktop.

In the process I overwrote all configuration files.

Now XFree starts ok, but when I type startx, how do I start in GNOME or KDE, my preferred desktops ? It seems to starts in some sparse looking desktop (cant say what the name is).

Also how do I set my monitor and graphics card setting anew, now that I have the latest XFree86 ?

if you're just going to be loading via startx, create a file in your home directory called .xinitrc and put the line "exec gnome-session" in it. should be fine then.
