xawtv problem

I am trying to record a video tape to Hard Disk using xawtv. I can view the video using :
gmplayer -tv on:driver=v4l:norm=PAL:input=0utfmt=YUY2:width=352:height=288
but when I load xawtv, I dont know what channel to pick. I edited the config file and added :
[AV1]
capture = overlay
input = Composite1
norm = PAL
channel = 0

but still no picture. I don't really know what i am doing. I am using rivatv drivers for video in. I have no tuner just video in.
If there is a better way to record the video then using xawtv please let me know, or if you know what I am doing wrong please let me know.

An advice appreciated.

well your using channel 0, unlikely to have a tv statino broadcastng there really... just use up and down to change the channel, and when you find the ones you want, add them o the config file

As I said I do not have a tuner just video in. I think it is composite. Going up and down on the keyboard does not pick that channel for me to view the video I am playing. It is just a blue window. I can get it to work in MPlayer with the command above but any help to get it to work in xawtv would be appreciated as I wish to record them to hard disk.

Thanks
