After this ALT+F2 and type: fusion-icon
Also add it to auto start programs in "System/Preferences/Sessions"
With this icon on the notification area you can easily switch between Compiz and Metacity.
Switch to Metacity before you start a game or something 3D application.
Then you can also switch back to Compiz with fusion-icon.

That's a good idea, I didn't know about fusion-icon. At least this will provide a quick workaround. Thank you.
