x11 and 'screen'

I've been using the wonderful (and IMHO underpublicized) "screen" tool for some time now to do all sorts of wonderful magic with shells. Being able to detach a running process and then reattach it from another machine is a lifesaver, since I'm always moving between my laptop and my workstation.
But there's still, as far as I've been able to determine, no way to do anything similar with X11 processes. I've played with xmove, but it simply doesn't seem to work, and apparently hasn't been maintained in nearly a decade.
Can anyone reccomend any tools, workarounds, or cheap hacks that might make my X11 experience as smooth as screen makes my CLI?

Wow, what an interesting project...
I'm really impressed at how smoothly the viewer software runs; even over an ssh connection on my wee lil' P75 laptop. And it does pretty much everything I need

Since it transports and entire desktops, though, instead of individual clients, I still have to find a way to deal with the radically different resolutions of my two machines (1280x1024 vs. 640x480...urg).

Either way, much thanks for pointing that out
