wine 0.9.43 winecfg is messed up

Maybe someone could help me. I run winecfg and it look's like this:

That's pretty cool.

I'll bet you have unicode enabled for part of your system but not for all of it. And no, offhand I don't know how to correct that. But someone else might.

for the record

newer versions did not have such problems but they have other problems
i need exactly this version but the interface is messed up

You may get lucky starting it from command-line with:
LC_ALL="C" winecfg
It looks like a problem with your locales like jiml8 said.
I know nothing about setting this up or correcting it in Ubuntu - it just works for me.
You could have a look at: System --> Administration --> Language Support - but this is for the Gnome Environment - I dont have or use KDE.
