Are you giving up already? let me guess...u didn't get much help from ur previous posts. IT TAKES TIME......Nobody here said linux is user-friendly it never was never will be. Step away from the spoon...feed urself. Thats all it takes along with some patients. I agree there isn't alot of games for linux; but if a certain company (Loki) had'nt went out of business there would of been, thats why many linux users keep a windoze partition or computer around..just for those software or games that can't be used on Linux.
i just wonder why i need to spend longer time on linux just to get the same thing of Windows???
Windows does not spoon feed me,
there are many things to learn in it!
you directly go to the point of your usage, no need to go thru hassels for simple task like mounting cdrom,
cdrom should be mounted automatically,
why need us to type mount \dev\cdrom at terminal ???
and i fear our ISP does not support linux, i failed to dialup internet connection though i setup correctly!
There are many reasons to use Linux over Windows. Try doing a search on it. I am sure there are tons of debates on it over the net. Actually if you think about it, probably more than 60% of the web is running on Unix or Linux, so that would be one superior over windows, its stable, flexible, open source, better security, and Linux is free.
No one ever said Linux is user friendly. To tell you the truth, complaining about linux on this site will not help you one bit. There are plenty of forums out there to complain about it.
So if you want help, try to co-operate with us and we will help you. If you just complain, no one here will be willing to help you.
Might want to stick with Windows if you just want that point and click, easy to use no brainer OS that does everything for you.

PS. Just please stop bashing linux, that will not win you any friends or members prone to help you out if you keep it up. This is a friendly, helpful site. We don't want any wars here cause no one here actually goes around bashing windows, most still use it on this site.
i just spelled out my impression on linux as an old windows-user.
i can install ASP Linux on my machine,
but failed to install Redhat, because redhat always get my VGA wrong, can not log in into Gnome.
I do the same thing for ASP linux, everything just fine, why?
My on board VGA is VIA technology, detected as Trident Cyberblade (generic), i choose 16 bit resolution, 800x600,
but it fails on redhat, it prompts me "800x600" not found!
i check /ect/X11/Xfree.... (forgot name) file, in it , it specify "1400x768" resolution, why? I do not choose that!!!
thats what i mean bout spoon feed....why point and click? the real knowledge is programming? what do u learn from point and click??? not a damn thing. As for mounting automatically...did u know u can edit ur fstab so that ur cdrom will mount automatically? thats what I mean bout taking the time to learn...yeah u'll get frustrated; but that comes with the territory....geez what does ur ISP have to do with linux.....? Somebody pls help this poor soul find his way back to his daddy (Bill Gates)
point and click can also mean laziness.......If u want simplicity go back to windows; but if u want stability, flexibilty and every thing else u know where to come to. As for logic....If u can't handle simply problems with ur nix box, u won't be able to handle the logic on this whole situation that u started.

futurist,
As trickykid said this is a very friendly site. If you are having a specific problem feel free to post in the appropriate forum and someone will help you. Bashing Linux or having the "Windoze Rulz" attitude is not going to help. To be honest I don't understand those kinds of posts. Would you go into a honda dealership yelling about how much better toyota is than honda? ...but i digress
Linux does have a steeper learning curve than windows and is NOT for everyone (atleast not yet). Some would say its not user friendly, others would say that it is just selective about who its friends are. Along with the steep learning curve and complexity come stability and flexibilty that is unmatched. That is a trade off that you will have to look at and decide if Linux is for you.
I do not make many posts like this and the bottom line is this. LinuxQuestions is VERY newbie friendly. If you have a question ask away. If you ask 1000 questions that are well thought out and give good info you will probably get answers to every one of them. There is no need to bash linux, this will only aggravate the members you are asking for help.

i guess <20%.
all people use windows,
why?
because it is more user-friendly than linux,
i don't mean linux is a bad product, but just that it sucks me!
Actually Windows is on about 95% of desktops. Were not here to argue though. Windows is easier to use. If you choose that, then that is what you prefer. Some like to have control over their OS, they come here when they need help and other sites as well.

Hmm.. check that out futurist... my linux machine has been going for 235 days, 6 hours, 17 minutes without a reboot... what you got?!?!
Oh hey, and look at this... I have 5 people logged in using ANY resourse on the box they want, including their own desktops... what about windoze? hmm? how many people did you say can use your machine at a time? only 1?!? and you call that a good OS? pffft that's about as limited as you can get.
I got another one for ya... ever wonder why companies use Unix/Linux instead of winfroze when it comes to handling large amounts of data and hundreds of simultaneous users? cause windoze cant cut it! I'd like to see you setup a windoze environment with a 9 TB database and 4000 people logged in at any given minute. GOOD LUCK! But guess what, we do that every single day on our UNIX machines.
