why does apt-get install mysql want exim?


Why does apt-get install try and install exim too?

Do I have to have exim for mysql to function?

it's most likely the other way around the exim compiled i bet uses mysql to set up a virtual domain database.
I guess debian is just seeing it as a part of the mail system
you can always just disab;e the exim startup even though it's installed
debian likes for you to have a mail server
if you uninstall one it will automatically install another
it's like a monty python skit
no one shall be without a mail server

Are you using unstable, because then it's most likely just a depency mixup. I'm running testing on my web server, which I set up a couple of weeks ago and I have mysql, but not exim installed.
