what software can I use to add sound to an avi file?
Hello. I have a video file, an avi file, that has no sound. I have a sound file that I would like to add to it, which is a wav file. However, I'm not sure how to merge these two files (they both match perfectly, so timing is not an issue). I tried using cinelerra, but when I rendered the new avi with the two sound tracks (two because it's stereo), the resultant size was several gigabytes -- and it didn't play properly. So, is there something else I can use to do this? Or, does someone know how to properly use cinelerra to add the sound file to the video file?
Have a look at ffmpeg, although I've never used it for that purpose I'm sure you'll find it handy and very complete. This website lists ffmpeg commands for various actions, including Mix video with sound file. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Eric. I've bookmarked the ffmpeg site, which I'm sure will be useful. Your reply inspired me to approach the issue from another angle, which ultimately led to the solution. I decided that it might help if I converted the video file to mpg first, and also converted the sound files to ac3, before using cinelerra (I had to use cinelerra, rather than the ffmpeg command for adding sound to the video file, because I had several sound files that I had to add to the one video file). Anyway, this worked.
