CUBASE,
although I found some music production programs for linux on the web (which I admit I haven't tried yet), cubase seems to be the most popular.

dreamweaver MX and linux

I know that there are a few tutorials out there on how to get dreamweaver working on a linux box. Most of them deal with Wine directly. I had no success with wine or winex.

I decided to go a more unconventional path with my quest to get dreamweaver weaver running in linux. I purchased a piece of software called CrossOver Office. The reason why it is hyperlinked is because it has a link to the manufactureres website.

Now I am the very first person to say FREE is Good. But I got to the point that I was wasting hours and hours pouring over faqs on the Internet and getting to the point that I was so Frusterated with the whole thing.

So as I stated before I went to the website for the CrossOver Office and downloaded the install file. Now I don't know about you but anything that is a .sh makes me happy.

The install is so simple, a 9yo with basic navigation skills could figure out how to install it. Once it was installed it asked me if I wanted to configure it. I just used the default.

Then I installed the dcom98, most windows apps need that. Next I installed Macromedia. That took me a little longer to install than on a windows machine. Actually about only 45 seconds longer...Maybe thats because this machine is a slower processor than my desktop...Whatever.

Anyways Macromedia installed fine, I just accepted all the defaultes. (By The Way: I didn't mention you have to use the office setup in your KDE menu to install any new windows programs.)

NOW: I setup my site and my template...and found that everything worked fine...for now. I was extremely impressed at that point. But...and there is always a but...

When I switched between different html docs I kept getting JavaScript errors with ToolBars.XML. What the Hell is toolbars.xml I said to myself. And its a fresh install why the hell am I getting these errors. After searching and searching the net I found no info on the errors. I was at a loss, I figured well at least I can get dreamweaver to work in the linux environment.

Then oneday an idea hit me. What if I change the file extension. That won't hurt. So I did a search on my machine for toolbars.xml I found it, opened up the dir that it was located in and changed the .xml to .bak

I crossed my fingers opened up dreamweaver and PRESTO!! It worked.

So Now I have have a 100% functional app for my linux machine. Too bad macromedia won't make a dreamweaver using linux architecture

A "quick" rundown af all programs that are available for linux?

No complete list of all programs available for Linux even exists, and even if it did it would be by no means "quick"! There are literally thousands.

This only counts for the first MX version. MX 2004 for instance, won't run at all.

AutoCAD anyone? Really frustrating how it requires the .NET framework, which I can't install using WINE.

hm....just curious.

If many softwares are made with C/C++ programming. . . and yet. . . the Unix operating system was the result of Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie rewritting it again, in the C language...and yet. . . Linux is based on the Unix operating system.....how come the program made for Windows can't be run on Linux?

Weird huh?

Also, a piece of software written for Linux and one for Windows use completely different libraries. When you write a program for Linux, you use the x.h library to handle creating a GUI. This library is not available for Windows. The same thing works for Windows programs, Linux doesn't offer the same set of tools needed to run the software, i.e., the operating systems are completely different.

VMWare, on the other hand, can be installed on a Linux machine and allow the entire Windows operating system to run natively. If you're really interested in running ALL Windows programs in Linux, you can use this, or you should just stick with Windows all together.

I know what you're talking about. I've been with Crossover Office for almost 4 years trying to get AutoCAD to run under Wine, but we've had very minimal luck. Older versions of AutoCAD do not require the .NET framework, so these are the versions most likely to work.
