Well characters sometimes don't show in linux, and I am not sure why. FreeBSD 5.3 is good don't get me wrong. I just did not like losing 28.5GB of drive space.

I would like to see QuickTax - or other tax software - ported in.
I'm too cheap to go to H&R Block every year
me too
check out the web based tax software at places like turbotax - they only charge you if you file with them or print - so fill out the online stuff and then copy it to yer 1040 forms. Not free speech, but free beer for once. April 15th is closing in quick.

Yes and I have had to fight with others telling me I should use Windows, nah, not me. Linux is all for me now and as far as I am concerned, if it's not native to linux, it's not worth using.
1. dumeter - to watch network activity
2. windows media player - to play wmv files
i've tried dumeter in wine, it works okie-dokie
i've never tried wmp in wine...dunno if it'll work. the linux mplayer says it'll play wmv files if i have installed the codecs. i installed the "essential" and "all" codecs packages for mplayer, still a no-go for wmv files.
Ah guy24x I play wmv file with Xine all they time. So theres no need for windows media player. As a matter of fact I just checked several wmv file they played in almost every video player I have.
You want network monitors for linux? Tons of them here. Everything from blinking light dock applets to the most sophisticted network administration tools.
As for mplayer. I struggled with it until I followed the instructions here for installng mplayer as part of the process of installing acidrip - a dvd ripping package. Now I can play all that stuff

hw
hw-tph if you do that just LET ME KNOW
...especially if you get licenses with that. willing to work on that ALL THE WAY
think that emagic won't do it's now an apple company, and you know what that means... softwares like this are one of the clues to recent apple survival.
One my neighbour is DJ. He uses Windows XP to make music with Fruity Loops and a few other programs. He hates XP, because it is very buggy at his PC and he's got a toolbar . He wants to switch to Linux, but he is afraid of inability to make mixes and tracks

There are good multitracking programs available in Linux. Fruity Loops I'm still looking for a replacement....that and Acid Pro 4.0.
