Thanks Jeremy, I had visions of this thread becoming overrun and actual programs being buried by requests fo certain games.

I have seen some games sites offer a small program to allow their Windows games run on Linux. If this were possible for programs then we wouldn't need to buy 2 versions of the software.

I know of a few people who would switch if Macromedia would allow ports.

maybe NVU is a solution.

look in -> http://nvudev.com/index.php

best regards.

I'd like to add my vote for Textpad as an app I'd like to see ported to Linux.

It's not just look and feel. There are features I have not ever seen on any Linux editor. Specific example:

The ability to have a search mark all the lines in which the searched string occurs.

The ability to copy, cut or delete the marked lines, and if copying/cutting, to paste them in a new file.

The ability to click on a line of text returned in FILE search, and have the editor open the file in which that line shows up, and immediately find the string being searched.

The ability to record macros from keystrokes/mouse actions - though I admit some Linux-based editors are better at this as they offer actual macro programming capabilities.

The ability to invoke any external tool.

Very strong and flexible regular expressions functionality.

Easily toggle between block and regular selection.

The ability to apply user-created syntax files (yes, I know some Linux editors allow this as well).

These are the ones that come to mind right now, but there are plenty of others. I've been on the publisher's own forum, people there swear up and down that they'd be glad to pay (reasonable) money for a Linux version, and so would I.

Until then, I'll work with geany and gedit. I've used Textpad under Wine, but some of the above didn't work quite right.

(a TERRIFIC source of medical info about meds)

I know a little about JPilot & KPilot, but neither one mentions supporting photos. I carry my family, GF, lots of scenery -- many pictures. Will J or K support photos?

Garmin Mapsource

There must be lots of folks out there who use a Garmin GPS that would like to be able to run Mapsource on Linux. It's the only reason I dual boot into Windows from Ubuntu 8.04.

You don't really need to use this program in linux, because all files will delete in linux if you are root

Angry Port_Google_email_Notifier_to_LInux

I don't know what the story is with Google. I've heard that they use Linux servers all over the place. So why the heck haven't they ported the google email notifier to Linux? I know, that's a desktop application. But it is just so irritating that I don't have the notifier available here!!!! On Windows, when I don't have the browser open, it is a life saver.

I always simply set up KMail (or any other email client that can run in the system tray) to access GMail via IMAP. Works like a charm.

Use your head Google hasn't ported their email alert software to linux because Linux doesn't have the market share of the heavy weights name Microsoft And Apple!

Linux-hawk: I am looking at your signature and I see you hate bad grammar. What about bad spelling? Or how others perceive bad spelling?

Verizon VZAccess Manager

I've been able to get access with my UM150 USB Modem, using ubuntu v7.1, but it doesn't yet work with v8.04, and requires a sequence of scripts. I'm not sure whether the same scripts work with other distributions.
