What is going on with Mplayer?

I go to get it and this is the first thing I see (follow the link)

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/index.html

is this the future for linux and it's software? Is linux going to end up being just an operating system with no software? if this keeps going won't linux be dead?

I don't think it is the Mplayer software itself that is in violation. Probably some of the codecs it
uses.

Looks like the European Music and Movie industries are cracking down like in the US.

Hope they win the fight, Mplayer is a good piece of software, however, I think the future of Linux is not in Jeopardy.

You can see that it is a stunt to get people politically involved, right?

wow,

just when they say we are in a world that is more and more democratic we continue to have less and less say in things that effect our lives directly

note the Orwellian name "violating democratic rules and procedures"

just like in the US with all the retrograde Orwellian naming of things

jingoism like that is a sign of fascism by the way just like the favoring of large corporations over people

even here in America corporations are actually considered citizens and bribing public officials is considered "free speech rights"

where it all leads who knows -- especially when we have no say in it -- elections are all rigged and so forth..

it is possible things could get real ugly.

I can understand that it could be a stunt.

Wrong question/s it should be the three W's

1. What are we as a community going to do about it?

2. Where are we going to do something about it?

3. When are we going to do something about it?

Let's not sit back and watch the feathers fly, there are a lot of programmers, developers etc that work very hard to present us with software that is of a high standard and in the main 'free'.

This is the opportunity for the end-user to show their appreciation by lending their voice to the campaign.

It's in our hands, we are the majority not these big corporations!
