what about path

I just spent some time looking for the path statement from my system (FC3). I don't know enough about how Linux starts - like what are the configuration files that set the environment variables. I do know about stuff like bashrc and rc, but I didn't find the path statement there. There's even a "config<kernel-version>" file in /boot, but nothing there (actually it says it's and automatically created file and not supposed to be edited).

Anybody want to educate me?

Check out your .bash_profile file. You can set the path by adding something like this in there:

PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin

yes, there's that

but i was thinking of a systemwide path statement where i could add a directory. .bash_profile is unique to user, in my understanding, and i have 7 users on this box, to whom i'd like to make one special-case app available...
