VNC desktop display Problems with Fedora/Windows XP

I have recently set up a Fedora 7 box on my network. I am trying to VNC to it and see the desktop as I do when I log in and use gnome

I can connect using IP:2 (which is the display I used) but when it connects this is all I see:

Maybe I have something done wrong where gnome is not loading on start? I am VERY new to linux so excuse me if I sound like a moron.

Thanks,
Steve

Have you made the necessary changes to your /home/username/.vnc/xstartup file? Do a search in this forum there are plenty of examples on how to achieve a successful vnc session.

I appreciate your help, I did a search and was more confused than helped!

Here is a copy of my /home/username/.vnc/xstartup file:

unset SESSION_MANAGER
exec /etc/x11/xinit/xinitrc
exec gnome-session &

Thats it, just the three lines.

Thanks in advance.

This is what mine looks like:

#!/bin/sh

# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
# unset SESSION_MANAGER
# exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
exec gnome-session &

Backup your current xstartup then delete it's contents then copy and paste these details into it. Now try your vnc connection again.
