gnome desktop won't display on VNC viewer

I am running RealVNC server 4 on my Linux RHEL 4 and Gnome 2.8. My xstartup looks like this:

#!/bin/sh

[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
startkde &

I tried to replace the "startkde &" with "exec gnome-session". But, when I started the viewer on my other system (Win2000), it connects, but I get a blank screen. I wish to be able to view my Linux desktop remotely as it would appear if I were at the linuxbox. I tried searching for similar threads/ but I didn't see anything that helped. Any suggestions please?

Might want to try Freenx instead of VNC

I have found a solution. First, I open up the file browser and in the location field, I type in "preferences:///" (no quotes anywhere thoughout). Open up "Remote Desktop", then under "sharing", put a check in the box labeled "Allow other users to view your desktop". Then just open your viewer and put in "your IP address:0"
