- setup samba in your linux system
- re-run vmware-config.pl and setup the filesystesm access.

I'm not sure about whatever version of vmware you're using, but when I set up my 4.0.2 version, I didn't need to setup samba in linux. When vmware-config.pl got to the section about configuring the host filesystem access, it installed and configured a mini-samba server.

Then in vmware, under 'Edit', 'Virtual Machine Settings...', click the 'Options' tab, then choose 'Shared Folders' (which should now say 'Enabled'), then click the 'Add' button, and browse to the linux folder(s) you want to access from within XP.

Enjoy!
