/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lunwind

hey all,

I am attempting to build a cross-compiler for a ppc440gx using kegel's cross-tools. I've used them before to build crosstools for an mpc8548 and they worked like a charm, but this time I'm getting this error that I am not familiar with.

during the build it errors out with:

Code:
...
checking for clock_t... yes
checking for uchar...
checking for .preinit_array/.init_array/.fini_array support... yes
checking if mkdir takes one argument... no
checking for main in -lunwind... no
Unknown cpu used with --with-cpu=440
Configure in /home/njozwiak/crosstool-0.43/build/powerpc-440-linux-gnu/gcc-4.1.0-glibc-2.3.6/build-gcc-core/gcc failed, exiting.
I pulled up the configure error log in that directory and it contains the following error:

Code:
configure:4953: checking for main in -lunwind
configure:4968: gcc -o conftest -g -02 conftest.c -lunwind 1>&5
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lunwind
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure: failed program was:
#line 4961 "configure"
#include "confdefs.h"

int main() {
main()
; return 0; }
So my question is does anyone know what -lunwind is? I have poked around a little and can't seem to find much information on it. It would seem to me that is where it's hanging up though.

thanks,
nate

When "configure" asks for " l " it means lib.
And the required lib is always " lib.so ",
which can only be found in the package " lib-devel ".

# 'yum search libunwind' to see what's available.

# 'yum install libunwind-devel' to install it.
....
libunwind info
http://www.hpl.hp.com/research/linux/libunwind/
http://www.nongnu.org/libunwind/
http://www.nongnu.org/libunwind/docs.html
....
