usb (lirc) device not showng in dmesg

I have a tv remote usb IR receiver (Dvico digital hybrid) but the device doesn't show under dmesg when plugged in. This is after a custom kernal compile including usb support (2.6.15). It worked fine with the standard FC4 kernel. I am trying to get lirc working with it. Is there any way to trouble shoot the usb as I have to get it showing under dmesg before installing the drivers don't I?

Thanks,

Joe

Ok for those interested I recompiled the kernel with more of the USB options enabled, can't remember which ones exactly and now it is all working perfectly!
